Fenerbahce are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, according to reports in Turkey.
Turkish publication A Spor claim the Super Lig club want to land the Spaniard to link up with former United stars Robin van Persie and Nani.
Mata, 27, moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea in January 2014 for a fee of £37.1million but the Spain midfielder has struggled to show his best form under Louis van Gaal.
Mata has two years remaining on his Old Trafford deal, but United are not believed to be willing to allow him to leave permanently which means that Fener could look to take Mata on a season-long loan deal.
Fenerbahce representatives are believed to be keen on setting up a meeting with United chief Ed Woodward to propose a deal for the summer.
The player’s future, like the rest of the United squads’ future will depend on just who is in charge ahead of next season. Boss Van Gaal, who is under huge pressure, is still contracted until summer 2017 but he could be moved on by Woodward.
Van Gaal was recently critical of Mata after the player was sent off in their 1-0 defeat at West Brom.
Should Juan Mata be sold in the summer?
“You know the first one is a stupid yellow card and then you have to be aware the referee can give a second yellow card. A referee has to decide within one second but when you know the player, Mata never hurts a player,” said Van Gaal after Mata picked up two yellow cards in quick succession.
“Juan Mata is playing the right side and he is doing fantastically well because he always has a big contribution for our team, but he is not a right winger in the profile I have.
“But it is not so easy to purchase players who are better than Mata because even though he is in a different profile, he is a very good right winger in our way of playing,” Van Gaal said in January.
Mata has made 27 Premier League starts this season, scoring five times.
