Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will reportedly meet with Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes on Tuesday for talks about the managerial vacancy at Old Trafford.
With Louis van Gaal’s two-year reign at the club brought to an end on Monday evening, the club are expected to act quickly to appoint former Chelsea boss Mourinho as the Dutchman’s successor.
Mourinho, out of work since being axed by Chelsea in December, had always been confident of returning to management, stating earlier this year that he’ll be back in work by July.
Unconfirmed reports on Monday evening suggested Mourinho is keen to appoint England assistant coach Gary Neville as his No 2, with claims Ryan Giggs has rejected a lesser role with the club’s Under-21s side and will walk away after 29 years at Old Trafford.
And Woodward, the man responsible for rubber-stamping the club’s managerial appointments and transfer transactions, will meet with Mourinho’s agent Mendes at unspecified location on Tuesday.
Mendes has strong ties with Manchester United and also brokered the deals for both Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea.
And the appointment of Mourinho, while not expected to be too long in being confirmed, is not expected to be announced until the back end of this week, or maybe even the weekend.
