Joao Mario: Linked with Chelsea

Manchester United will not appoint a sporting director this summer and will not sign any player from Portugal, according to Jose Mourinho.

It had been speculated that United could bring in someone to oversee their transfer activity this summer, but Sky Sports News HQ claims there are no such plans despite the apparent available of Sevilla’s highly-regarded sporting director Monchi.

Atletico Madrid’s Italian sporting director Andrea Berta had also been linked with a possible role at Old Trafford.

Woodward came in for criticism last month when it was claimed United miss out on the signing of Renato Sanches because they hesitated in firming up their interest in the Portugal sensation, , who joined Bayern Munich instead, but United are apparently confident in him working alongside Mourinho, combined with the support of the Portuguese’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

United have been linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario, but Mourinho insists he has no targets in his home country.

“I won’t be signing any player from Portugal,” Mourinho said during a lecture at Lisbon University on Tuesday.

Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes is another player reported to be on Mourinho’s summer wishlist, but he is currently playing in Spain for Valencia.
