Manchester United are ruling out a January move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, according to a report by the BBC.
Only today some newspapers were reporting that the deal was on, with Portuguese publication O Jogo claiming that Benfica would try to get Lindelof to sign a new contract to raise the value on any transfer to United.
Injuries to the likes of Eric Bailly have meant United have struggled to get a consistent back four together this season.
However, the BBC understands that the excellent recent form of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo has convinced Jose Mourinho to stick with he’s got.
United have only conceded six goals in their last nine Premier League matches and they still have back-up in the form of Bailly, Daley Blind and Chris Smalling for the two centre-back positions.
Most reports in recent weeks had pointed towards a deal being done with some claiming the Red Devils had made a £38million bid and another picturing Lindelof signing a young United fan’s shirt.
