Anthony Martial: Joined Manchester United on deadline day

Manchester United new boy Anthony Martial only needs to score 25 goals in the next four seasons to trigger a £7.2million bonus payment to Monaco – while the other payment triggers have also been revealed.

United raised a few eyebrows when their £36million up front capture on transfer deadline day made the 19-year-old the world’s most expensive teenager ever, but the former Monaco man could eventually cost United £57.6million with three separate add-on clauses.

Each three bonuses are worth £7.2m, according to The Sun and United will pay the first of them to Monaco if Martial, who scored eight goals in his last nine appearances last season, scores 25 goals in the next four years. The club will also pay an additional £7.2million if Martial, who is yet uncapped by France, wins 25 caps over the same four-year period and finally a further £7.2million will be owed should Martial win the Ballon d’Or by June 2019.

Meanwhile, Martial has not been perturbed by the fact that United skipper Wayne Rooney had to ask French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin who he was.

“To be honest, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak,” said Schneiderlin.

“It’s normal that Rooney doesn’t know who I am,” Martial said. “This is my first time with France and I’ve played a little in Ligue 1.”
