Niall Mason: Spent season on-loan at Doncaster

Doncaster have signed defender Niall Mason on a permanent deal from Aston Villa after the 20-year-old turned other offers for his services.

Mason has put pen to paper on a two-year contract after spending the season on loan at the Keepmoat Stadium, with Rovers paying an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old, who made 42 appearances as Doncaster clinched promotion back to League One at the first attempt, had other options but wanted to remain with Darren Ferguson’s team.

“I had a couple of options to go a bit higher up the pyramid, but this is a great platform for me. I am working with a manager and coaching staff who know my game inside out and can get the best out of me,” Mason told the club’s official website.

“They’ve all been really good to me and helped me develop, they’re probably the best coaching staff in League Two. They are only going to help me progress as a player.

“You can see the potential of the club, we have a good stadium and training facilities, and it has everything going for it really. We’re not going up to League One just to take part, we’re going up to give it a good go.”
