Nemanja Matic: Returned to Chelsea side against Dynamo Kiev

Nemanja Matic has no problem with Jose Mourinho over his recent absence but believes he did what the Chelsea boss asked of him against Dynamo Kiev.

Matic was left out of the Chelsea side that beat Aston Villa at the weekend having come on as a substitute in their previous Premier League game against Southampton only to be then taken off himself.

Matic returned to the starting line-up against Dynamo in the Champions League on Tuesday night, however, and hopes to have won back the trust of Mourinho after impressing in a 0-0 draw.

“In all my life I have never had a problem with any coach,” Matic said of his recent absence from the team.

“I respect all the decisions of the coach. With Mourinho it is the same. He knows he can always count on me. He respects that, I respect not only him but all the coaches I’ve had in my life.

“I think that I did what he wanted on Tuesday, what he asked from me. So you have to ask him again, if he is happy with my game. Again I can say only that I try always to give my best.

“I try to do what the coach asks. If I am good or not, I am sure people will say. What I can say about myself, is that I try always to give my best.”

Chelsea have made a disastrous start to their title defence in the Premier League, having lost four matches already.

“The team is not in a good position in the Premier League,” said Matic.

“Step by step I think we are getting better. We are not in a great position but we are working hard and slowly we will get back to what we had last season.

“I’m sure that as a team we will improve. Confidence is not high when you are in a position like we are now in the Premier League but I’m sure we will do better.

“I will be happy when we get out of the group and get closer to the top of the Premier League.”

Eden Hazard has also found himself out of the Chelsea team recently, but Matic was full of praise for his team-mate after the game against Dynamo.

“Eden is a great guy, a great player, the best player in the league last year, and very important for us,” Matic added.

“For the rest, you’d have to ask the coach. I am very happy when I play with him. It’s very simple: you pass him the ball and he always does something. Tonight he almost scored a goal, and had some good actions. Eden is one of the best players in the world.”
