The defender was acknowledged for his consistent performances with the main Telegraph & Argus Player of the Year title along with the Players’ Player of the Year award.

McArdle has not played since being sent off during the draw at Sheffield United, but has featured 54 times for the Bantams, helping them reach eighth place in the table with just a game to go.

The Northern Ireland international beat off competition from Gary Liddle and Billy Clarke for the two awards and said afterwards: “I am absolutely over the moon – it is not something I expected if I’m being honest.

“If you look how the season has gone for us, any number of players from our squad could have won these awards.

“This will really give me a boost going into the summer months to help me come back even stronger and hopefully try and win these awards next year.”
