Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman believes Jurgen Klopp needs to strengthen at least four positions this summer.
Speaking after the come-from-behind 2-1 win over Stoke on Saturday, McManaman said it was straight forward to see where Klopp needs to strengthen his first XI.
“They showed a lot of character which is great but with Liverpool you can pinpoint areas where they could improve that starting XI,” McManaman told BT Sport.
“James Milner has done a wonderful job but he’s not a left-back, you could go and get a better left-back to play in that position.
“Yes, I think they need a centre-back and there’s talk about the goalkeepers.
Klopp had to dig deep into his reserves yesterday with Sadio Mane injured and Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino rested on the bench and McManaman says it’s crucial Klopp adds another wide player to his squad.
“I still think they need one more winger, possibly two
“It would give them options when it comes to trying to break the lesser teams down when games get condensed,” added McManaman, who also admitted despite having a fine game at The Britannia , Simon Mignolet “makes mistakes”.
“I must say Mignolet was excellent. He made some brilliant saves.
“Coutinho and Firmino will get the plaudits but Mignolet kept them in the game and deserves a round of applause.
“But he does make mistakes. Man City might be looking for a goalkeeper, Liverpool might be looking for one too.”
