Memphis Depay: Left out of latest Holland squad

Memphis Depay has been left out of Holland’s latest squad for their upcoming international friendlies, with coach Danny Blind critical of his style and workrate.

Depay has endured a mixed start to the season for new club Manchester United after joining in the summer, with the 21-year-old winger scoring four goals in 13 appearances and failing to impress.

As a result of his poor performances for club, Depay has been left out of Holland’s squad to face Wales and Germany by head coach Danny Blind, who was pretty straightforward in his assessment.

“I think Depay is a player for the future,” Blind said. “But there are other issues to look at.

“Perhaps Louis van Gaal has also said something.

“In football you must function in a team. He doesn’t always do that. I have also told him when I called him to say he’s not in there. That’s something he has to learn.”

Blind also criticised Depay’s decision not to speak to the press after Holland’s 3-2 defeat to the Czech Republic in European Qualifying, saying: “He should have talked about that with us.”
