Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has predicted how the Premier League’s top four will look come May – and he can’t see a place at the top table for Manchester United.
Liverpool top the current table after 11 games, but Merson believes they will slip to fourth come the end of the season.
Explaining his choices, Merson believes the top four as it stands will finish in reverse order.
“I’m a Chelsea fan and I’d be disappointed if Chelsea finish above Man City and didn’t win the Premier League,” he said.
When asked whether Arsenal could challenge for the title, he replied: “No, I don’t see it. They played Middlesbrough at home and were very lucky to get a result. They were 1-1 with 15 minutes to go against Sunderland.”
The former Gunners midfielder then said that he believed the side “bottled it” in the recent north London derby draw with Tottenham.
Merson was then asked whether he thought Manchester United could finish in the top four.
“No,” he said. “I think it’s a big ask. I think they’re well short at the moment.
“You look at Liverpool and Chelsea, they’re playing once a week. It’s a big advantage.
“With Manchester City I just think he [Pep Guardiola] will get it right and buy who he needs to buy.”
