Lionel Messi will stay at Barcelona for “the rest of his life”, according to the club’s sporting director Robert Fernandez.
There was speculation last season around the forward’s future following a dispute with Luis Enrique, with Manchester City and PSG both linked.
The Argentina star struggled during the first half of the season, but soon regained his form to inspire Barcelona to Treble glory.
Fernandez insists Messi will never leave the Nou Camp and says the 28-year-old has many years ahead of him.
“Messi will play for the club for the rest of his life,” said Fernandez.
“He has many years of football left in him. Other people think not, but he’s so intelligent positionally and knows where to be on the field at the right time.
“As people get older they lose things but he’s smart enough to keep producing extraordinary performances. He has that gift.”
