Mesut Özil: Not committing future with Gunners yet

Mesut Ozil will open new contract talks with Arsenal after the European Championships in France, according to reports.

Sky Sports state that Ozil had always intended to hold the talks after the tournament however, and that this is not indicative of an exit.

The German international finished the 2015/16 campaign with 19 assists – six ahead of second placed Christian Eriksen – leading to speculation that clubs would come knocking.

While in Dubai last week, Ozil said: “I still have two years contract with Arsenal, as you know, and we will be in talks with the club and we’ll see what happens in the future.

“But as I said, now I’m concentrating on Euro 2016 in France, which is very important for me and my team after the last World Cup. Then later on, I will see what I do with Arsenal.”

In an interview with France Football, Ozil described how he has made changes to his lifestyle to stay on top of his game.

“Before, I liked to consume soft drinks and I did not drink enough water,” he said. “Now I drink a lot of water and green tea. In terms of nutrition, I quit the bread.

“So, I feel much better in my body and muscle injuries are becoming increasingly rare.

“I realised that talent alone is not enough to achieve my goals. Today, I am often the first to training and the last to leave. A few years ago, it was unimaginable (laughs). “
