MK Dons v Peterborough preview

MK Dons are assessing goalkeeper David Martin as they prepare for the visit of Peterborough.

Martin continues to be monitored after missing the last two matches with a thigh strain. If Saturday comes too soon for him then Ian McLoughlin will continue between the posts.

Dons boss Karl Robinson is expected to persist with his policy of rotating his attacking players. Ben Reeves could be pushing for a starting place after a couple of substitute appearances following a hamstring injury, while the likes of Danny Green, Devante Cole and Samir Carruthers will also be hoping for recalls.

Midfielder Keith Andrews was left out of the squad at Colchester in midweek but may be involved on Saturday, but forward Dean Bowditch (hamstring) is likely to remain out.

Peterborough playmaker Marcus Maddison may return to boost the visitors.

A knee problem has seen Maddison miss the last two games but Posh boss Darren Ferguson, who is hoping to sign a striker in time for the trip, is ‘pretty hopeful’ about the forward’s fitness ahead of the weekend.

Jon Taylor could be close to starting a game after coming off the bench against both Rochdale and Bristol City. The winger has recently returned from a three-month absence with a knee injury.

Striker Kyle Vassell is recovering well from his ankle problem and should be in contention for the home game with Bradford on February 28 but midfielder Jermaine Anderson has suffered a toe injury and will not play again this season.

MK Dons v Peterborough preview

Ben Reeves is expected to be back in contention for MK Dons when they host fellow play-off contenders Peterborough.

Reeves was replaced in the starting line-up at Notts County on Tuesday night by the fit-again Stephen Gleeson after suffering a hamstring injury on the morning of the game. His return, combined with Gleeson’s and the performances of Alan Smith and Dele Alli in the past two matches, presents Dons boss Karl Robinson with a selection dilemma in midfield.

The Milton Keynes club have received international clearance for Mark Randall after the former Arsenal youngster agreed a deal with his hometown club until the end of the season, while Robinson is also trying to sign a striker on loan in time for Saturday’s crucial clash with Posh.

The Dons go into the game three points behind Peterborough, who currently occupy the final play-off spot in League One. Victory by a two-goal margin would see Robinson’s men replace Posh in the top six.

Lloyd Isgrove is added to the Peterborough squad for the trip to fellow play-off contenders MK Dons.

The Wales Under-21 international winger joined Posh this week on loan from Southampton on a deal that will run until the end of the regular League One season on May 3.

With midfielder Danny Swanson serving the final game of his two-match suspension and striker Kyle Vassell (toe) still out injured, Isgrove’s inclusion should be the only changes to manager Darren Ferguson’s squad.

Peterborough head to stadiummk currently occupying the final play-off spot but defeat by a two-goal margin in Milton Keynes will see the Dons replace them in the top six.

Adam Clayton is expected to start for the Dons.

Clayton, on loan from Leeds, stepped in for Peter Leven as manager Karl Robinson made nine changes for the final game of the season at Oldham.

The 22-year-old, who Leeds signed for an undisclosed fee from Manchester City last summer, has made six appearances for the Dons since arriving on loan in March. He has also featured for Peterborough this season, on eight occasions during a loan spell from November to March.

Leven has undergone successful surgery on the metatarsal he fractured in training last Thursday.

Robinson has no new injury or suspension problems but is expected to make major changes again for the home leg after resting several players on the last day.

Striker Angelo Balanta is another hoping to retain his place against Posh after starting and scoring in the 2-1 win at Oldham.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson will choose from a virtually fully-fit squad.

Strikers Dave Hibbert and Paul Taylor are Posh’s only absentees while midfielders Grant Basey and Charlie Lee are expected to prove their fitness in time.

Hibbert has been sidelined since dislocating his knee in the FA Cup win over Stockport in November and Taylor sustained a foot injury this week during a run-out for the reserves.

Basey has returned to contention after recovering from a knee injury and Lee has been nursing a hamstring strain.

Midfielder Scott Griffiths is also back in contention after returning from his loan spell at Chesterfield and he could be called on if Lee was to suffer a recurrence.

MK Dons midfielder Peter Leven is back in the frame for the visit of promotion rivals Peterborough.

The Scot has missed the last two matches through suspension after collecting 10 yellow cards this season but is available for manager Karl Robinson.

Centre-back Gary MacKenzie came off in the second half of the 3-1 win at Colchester last weekend with an ankle injury but could be fit, with Sean O’Hanlon on hand if needed.

Goalkeeper David Martin picked up an ankle injury in the warm-up at Colchester and will continue to be assessed so reserve Stuart Searle could be handed a second straight start.

On-loan Fulham midfielder Keanu Marsh-Brown (groin) is fit again and the club is still seeking clearance from FIFA for new signing Shaun Williams to feature.

QPR forward Angelo Balanta was back on the bench last week after several months out with an ankle injury and could feature.

Craig Mackail-Smith is expected to lead the line once more for Peterborough at MK Dons.

The prolific striker is wanted by Norwich but the clubs have been unable to agree a deal and manager Darren Ferguson plans to start him at stadium:mk.

Posh are flying under Ferguson and thumped Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 last Tuesday night so the manager may name an unchanged side.

Midfielder Lee Frecklington has had a hernia operation and will be sidelined for at least a month while new signing Paul Taylor will not feature as he is not match fit.

Striker Dave Hibbert is absent as he steps up his comeback from a dislocated knee suffered back in November.
