Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Backed for United success

Manchester United summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been left ‘confused and unhappy’ with his start to life at Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan joined the Red Devils for £26.3million from Borussia Dortmund, but has struggled to establish himself at United thus far.

He has started just one game, but was substituted at half-time in the Manchester derby defeat in September.

The Armenian has been left out of recent match day squads as he continues his comeback from a thigh injury sustained on international duty last month.

However, there is confusion over why Mkhitaryan was left out of United’s side to face Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday, as the 27-year-old claims that he was fully fit.

According to The Times, he ‘was stunned to hear that he would not be taking part in Thursday’s match’.

Paul Hirst adds that: ‘It is understood that Mkhitaryan feels he was fully fit and has told friends he cannot fathom why he was not in the 18-man squad.’
