Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Closing in on Man Utd transfer

Henrikh Mkhitaryan wants to join Manchester United – but Borussia Dortmund are are adamant they won’t sell this summer.

Attacking midfielder Mkhitaryan has only a year remaining on his deal with Dortmund and United are reported to have offered £25million for the Armenia international, with his agent insisting the player wishes to move.

But despite failing to persuade Mkhitaryan to extend his commitment, Dortmund claim they will make him see out his contract with the Bundesliga runners up.

Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke told Bild: “We have been negotiating with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months for him to extend his contract with us,”

“Now we know that it is not extended, it was never our commitment that Mkhitaryan may leave us prematurely.

“We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season.”

Mkhitaryan’s agent Mino Raiola has accused Dortmund of “very bad management” and insists the 27-year-old wants to move to Old Trafford.

“Micki has for months maintained that he may leave the club this summer,” said Raiola.

“Dortmund presented an official offer which was rejected, but now the club bosses fear their own fans. Suddenly they tell Micki, that he should go next season on a free transfer. This is very bad management.

“Manchester United is a unique opportunity, Micki wants to go there.”
