Monk rules out more Swansea signings

The Welsh side have already added Andre Ayew, Franck Tabanou, Kristoffer Nordfeldt and Eder to their first-team this summer, with Monk keen to build on their eighth-place Premier League finish last season.

The 36-year-old believes his transfer business is now likely complete, with a desire not to unsettle his squad during a “big transition”.

Although the likes of Hull striker Dame N’Doye have been linked, player sales appear more likely, with former club captain Leon Britton and Spaniard Michu seeking exits.

Speaking to the South Wales Evening Post, Monk confirmed his transfer plans.

“You are still seeing teams doing deals,” Monk said. “The longer I can have to prepare with the full squad, the way we are going to play and how we are going to approach games and everything like that, the better it is for us.

“We said we wanted to get the right targets in early as possible to allow us to prepare as we are doing now, with a full squad for as long as possible.

“All the players we have brought in are players I really wanted. I wouldn’t bring them in otherwise.

“We did some really good business last summer. It was a big transition with 12 players leaving and eight coming in, then in January we bought Jack Cork, Kyle Naughton and Matty Grimes.

“This year I said to Huw (Jenkins) that after that big transition, which we did really well with considering, we would get to a point where we would have to do a lot less work.

“We have brought four players in this summer. There could possibly be some more but it’s highly likely not to happen and there is nothing imminent.”

“Hopefully in the future we’ll only need two or three a season. That’s the position you want to get to,” he added.

“There is stuff you can’t foresee, with players leaving, but you should be able to get to a position where you only need two or three to recycle the squad.

“We are still looking at all positions – you have got to preempt things and be ready for anything because things can go from nothing to something in a day.

“But I don’t see too many more coming in, if any.

“I am very happy with the squad I have got.”
