Jose Mourinho: Due to return to Stamford Bridge in October

Jose Mourinho has played down reports of a fall-out with Diego Costa and says all the players were given permission to have a Christmas party on Wednesday night.

Costa, who was unhappy at being an unused substitute in last Sunday’s goalless draw at Tottenham, was shown pictured leaving a nightclub along with Brazilians Ramires and Kenedy in the early hours of Thursday.

The trio were pictured following a night out with the whole squad, which had the approval of Mourinho.

And all players reported on time for training on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League home clash with Bournemouth.

The Premier League champions enter this weekend’s fixtures in 14th place in the table, 12 points adrift of the top four.

Mourinho played down any suggestion of a falling out with Costa after the draw at White Hart Lane, despite the striker appearing to throw his substitutes’ bib in his manager’s direction.

And in his press conference on Friday to preview Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth, Mourinho insisted the Chelsea squad had gone out on Wednesday night with his blessing.

“The players had a free night to go out and had discussed with me a suitable date. It’s fine.

“Costa has been very good’ in training this week but I can’t say whether he will start tomorrow.

“Diego is the type of player who always tries, I just need him to be what he is, I don’t need a reaction.”

Courtois return

Mourinho confirmed the Blues would still be without Ramires, John Terry and Radamel Falcao against the Cherries, but one player who is available is Thibaut Courtois, who has been sidelined since August with a knee injury.

Courtois’ last appearance for the Premier League champions was in a 2-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace in late August, with the Belgian damaging the meniscus in a knee in training the following month.

But Mourinho confirmed he’d welcome the player back into the matchday squad, saying: “Thibaut was our keeper all last season and you know how fundamental he was, it’s important to have him back.”

Nemanja Matic should also defy a fractured nose to play in the match, with Mourinho saying: “Nemanja has a double fracture in the nose area. He has a mask, he feels comfortable and he’s ready.”
