Luke Shaw will reportedly be given one last chance to prove that he is ready to be Manchester United’s first-choice left-back ahead of the start of the new season.
The England international has struggled to cement a place in the United side since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford, but The Times reports that the Red Devils boss is said to have been impressed by Shaw’s determination to recover from an ankle injury.
Shaw’s campaign was ended prematurely in April but he has been with the club on their pre-season tour in LA, albeit training separately from the rest of the squad as he builds up his fitness.
Mourinho has previously criticised Shaw’s fitness and attitude, famously calling him out after a poor display at Watford last season.
He said: “I cannot compare the way he trains and commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind.”
However, Shaw now looks determined to stake another claim for a first-team spot, having made 19 appearances last season.
