Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is lining up a £35m move for a Leicester City defender, according to reports.

The Daily Mirror claims that Mourinho sees Harry Maguire as the ideal replacement for Chris Smalling and is ready to make a summer swoop.

The 25-year-old made his first senior England appearance in October and could be set for a starting berth at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Mourinho has spent over £300m on new players since arriving at Old Trafford, but said after the defeat to West Brom: “We are not going to spend more than we can. We are not going to do anything crazy.

“We are just trying to improve a little bit more, to keep the sequence of it.”

Maguire joined Leicester in a £17million deal last summer from Hull City, and scored a late equaliser in December as United drew 2-2 with the Foxes.
