Jose Mourinho has claimed that Paul Pogba was “by far the best player on the pitch against Chelsea” during the FA Cup defeat on Monday night.
Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by the Blues in their quarter-final clash at Stamford Bridge, with N’Golo Kante firing past David de Gea for the only goal of a feisty encounter.
Pogba played the full 90 minutes but was largely on the periphery of the game, as criticism of his recent performances in a United shirt continues to mount.
The 23-year-old has played more minutes for United than any other player this season and is clearly starting to look a little of the pace.
Mourinho, however, overlooked the critics and claimed that Pogba was “by far the best player on the pitch” at Stamford Bridge.
“The players were phenomenal but I would refer to one because he’s the one that the specialists enjoy to go after,” Mourinho told MUTV
“Probably because in that time they were not getting 10 per cent of the money he was getting.
“It probably comes from envy but I have to say that, for me, Paul Pogba was by far the best player on the pitch.
“He was a giant on the pitch and, after him, all my other boys were fantastic.”
