Louis van Gaal’s methods are still ingrained in the minds of Manchester United’s players, according to Jose Mourinho.

After Saturday’s 4-1 thumping of champions Leicester at Old Trafford Mourinho admitted that his squad are still trying to forget about the methods of Van Gaal.

Van Gaal was often accused of producing boring football and was referred to as “the king of the 0-0 draw” buy several tabloid papers.

The Dutchman, who was in charge for two years before he was axed and Mourinho took over in the summer, guided United to fourth and fifth-place finishes in the Premier League and won the FA Cup last season, but his football philosophy is different to Mourinho’s and the Portuguese boss is still trying to get his methods across.

Mourinho said: “Myself and Mr Van Gaal think football in a different way so it is normal that in their football brains there is still moments of contradiction about what they used to do and what I want then to do.
