New Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will axe Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer, according to a report.
After just one injury-hit season the Sunday Mirror says United will make the 31-year-old midfielder available for transfer with Mourinho keen to add some younger legs to his United midfield.
Schweinsteiger is in the Germany squad for the Euros, despite his time at United being plagued by injuries and poor form. The World Cup winner signed from Bayern Munich last summer for a fee which was initially believed to be around 20million euros.
His first club TSV 1860 Rosenheim later revealed the fee United paid for the midfielder was 9million euros, but the player has failed to make the impact that United would have liked.
He made only 13 Premier League starts, making five sub appearances due to injuries and lack of match fitness. The midfielder is only one year into the three-year deal he signed under Louis van Gaal last summer, but Mourinho is not keen on keeping the veteran.
Schweinsteiger was not happy with the criticism he received in the press last season.
“I am not impressed by the criticism that has been brought up over me via the media,” he told German publication Welt am Sonntag in December 2015.
“I am currently playing on a level that is comparable to that during the World Cup in 2014.
The report also claims Ryan Giggs looks certain to depart this week after his return from his Dubai holiday.
