Jose Mourinho has suggested that Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is too old for a new contract offer at Old Trafford.
Carrick has been instrumental in United’s recent purple patch having not featured as much earlier in the season.
Reports had hinted that the Englishman would be rewarded with a one-year contract extension but that might now be unlikely after Mourinho’s recent comments.
The Portuguese coach admits he likes a lot about the England international but wishes he was younger.
“Let’s be honest,” Mourinho said. “I have seen many positives in Carrick. But I cannot go to his identity card and delete five years. Michael is not 30.”
Carrick joined the Red Devils from Tottenham in 2006 and has played over 300 times for the Premier League outfit.
