Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: A Man United target

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged as a £30million target for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is looking to revamp his midfield this summer and the England star is a prime target, with Chris Smalling to potentially be used as bait if the Gunners renew their interest in the defender, according to a report in the Sunday Mirror.

The Old Trafford chief allowed midfielders Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin to leave in the January window, while Marouane Fellaini has hardly convinced fans that he is the long-term answer at the heart of United’s midfield and Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger are not getting any younger.

Chelsea duo Nemanja Matic and Willian are also reported targets but Mourinho is sure that Antonio Conte and is unlikely to part with two key first-team squad members and has turned his attentions to Oxlade-Chamberlain instead.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 23, has been in and out of Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up for the last few years and could be willing to seek a fresh challenge as he enters the peak playing years of his career.
