Jose Mourinho was a happy spectator from afar as his Man United attacking quartet ran riot in the 4-1 EFL Cup win against West Ham.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were all instrumental as the Red Devils booked their place in the semi-finals and Mourinho was delighted with the display.

“The performance is something we are used to, we are playing very well at home,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “Today was more of the same.

“After the West Ham goal we had 10 minutes where we felt it deeply. West Ham’s first shot, they equalise. But in the second half we got the confidence to play and play beautiful, attacking football.

“I told them at half-time it is not possible to play so well and because of a goal stop to play so well. I told them to forget about the undeserved goal, we are playing so well, we have to keep the confidence and lets go on with it.

“Goals plus performance means the real happiness.”
