Reported Manchester United target Jose Mourinho says waiting until the summer before taking a new job is “the best thing to do”.
Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December, less than half a seaosn after winning the Premier League again with the Blues.
The Portuguese manager oversaw a torrid title defence at Stamford Bridge, with the club losing nine of 16 league games under his watch this season.
Chelsea were in 16th at the time of Mourinho’s sacking, and just one point above the relegation zone. Interim coach Guus Hiddink has since taken them to 12th, and remains unbeaten in the league.
Mourinho has been constantly linked with replacing under-fire United manager Louis van Gaal, although reports on Wednesday claimed that the Dutchman would remain in the job until the summer.
Speaking in Singapore, Mourinho discussed his managerial future.
“It’s quite a funny career. I am the English champion, and I still have no job,” said the Portuguese. “I read so many different things. One day it says I go to China, another day it says I go to Italy, and people say I’m back to Inter Milan. I’m here – I’m sure someone will say I am going to the Singapore national team!
“But the reality is I have no job, and at the moment I’m happy not to have a job.
“If I have to return tomorrow, I return tomorrow,” Mourinho added. “But I always feel that it’s better to wait, not to rush, to be calm, to wait for the right move.
“I think that starting next season with a new club and new contract is the best thing to do.
