Murray delighted by Palace win

Murray scored the opening goal on 34 minutes and won the free-kick which led to the home side’s second shortly after the half-time interval.

And the 31-year-old admitted he was unsure whether his fifth goal in as many games would stand with television replays appearing to show him marginally offside.

“Yes. That was my first look, over my left shoulder just to check he hadn’t flagged. And luckily it didn’t go up and the goal counted,” Murray said.

Murray spent almost nine months out of action because of a serious knee injury, and had a spell on loan with Championship side Reading in the first half of the season.

On his return to Selhurst Park the Cumbrian signed a new contract with Palace, and he enjoyed arguably his best performance for the club against the reigning champions.

“I suppose so. I haven’t had time to reflect on it yet, but it’s a good night for the club,” Murray said.

“I’m obviously enjoying it, it took a long time to get over my knee, and obviously I’ve worked hard to get back to this position and I’m enjoying it now.”

As well as his goal and assist, Murray was involved in a handball incident in his own penalty area, but the striker believes it would have been harsh had the referee awarded a spot-kick.

He said: “I felt it was more ball to hand than anything, but it was just one of those split-second things and luckily he didn’t give it.”

The former Carlisle and Brighton favourite is hopeful Palace can finish the campaign strongly, after securing an unexpected win over City.

“We felt tonight was almost a free game for us. When the champions come to town you’re not really expected to win,” he said.

“So again we’re delighted with the result but we’re that type of group that we’ll keep working hard and keep pushing for every point we can gain.”
