Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan will remain in Italy despite interest from Manchester United, according to the Serie A side’s sporting director Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo.
The Belgium international has been linked heavily with a move to Old Trafford as well as Chelsea and Inter Milan, following a solid season with Roma that saw them finish second in Serie A, only four points off champions Juventus.
Verdejo is a newly appointed sporting director with 17 years experience in the same role at Sevilla and he insisted that Nainggolan would be remaining at the club.
“Yes [he will stay]. I think we’ve seen the last of the big departures from our club,” Verdejo told asroma.com. “Now it’s time to build a team, which will be supplemented with potential purchases in the transfer market.”
The midfielder scored 11 goals and created five more for his team-mates in Serie A last campaign, while he was only absent in one league fixture.
Nainggolan has played over 150 times for Roma since moving from Cagliari in 2014, initially on loan, before completing a €6 million move there later that year.
