Neves not for sale, Porto owner warns Liverpool

Ruben Neves: Linked with move to Liverpool

Liverpool have been told that Ruben Neves is not for sale, amid claims Jurgen Klopp’s side were plotting a January move for the Porto midfielder.

The 18-year-old became the youngest player to captain a side in the Champions League on Tuesday when he led Porto in their 2-0 win over Maccabi and was watched by scouts from Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Juventus.

Neves is managed by agent Jorge Mendes and has been touted as the next big talent primed to leave Portugal.

However, club president Pinto da Costa said: “Ruben has a contract until 2019 and not until 2017, as sometimes I see in reports.

“And we would like to keep him at FC Porto, as a kind of Joao Pinto. That is, he was a symbol and legend of the progress of the club for several generations.

“I never want him to leave Porto. Since I want him to stay for a long time he can be Porto’s greatest captain.”
