Phil Neville was not impressed with Paul Pogba’s contribution in Man United’s 2-1 defeat to Hull in the League Cup semi-final second leg.
The Red Devils advanced to the final with a 3-2 win on aggregate and, even though Pogba equalised for Jose Mourinho’s side, Neville was less than complimentary with his initial verdict on the world record transfer.
“I thought he was like the rest of the Man United players, I thought he was very average,” said Neville on Sky Sports.
“I thought it was a real poor performance from all of the United team. There wasn’t really a stand-out player in the United XI and Pogba was part of that.
However, Neville does believe Pogba is heading for a good first season on his return to Old Trafford.
“He is going in the right direction. Seven goals from a midfield player and with lots of competitions he could finish the season with 12 or 13 goals.
“That is not a bad return in your first season.”
Neville also stated that Manchester United as a collective group are beginning to come together under Mourinho.
He added: “When you watch United now they are 100 per cent going in the right direction. They are playing with a better style, they are playing with more confidence and they’ve got determination about them.”
