Rafa Benitez will battle his former club Liverpool as he attempts to bring Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney to Newcastle, report the Daily Star.
Liverpool have had difficulties at left-back all season, with right-footed midfielder James Milner filling in their for much of the campaign.
That has made Tierney a priority signing for Kop boss Jurgen Klopp, but those plans could come under serious threat from Benitez.
Newcastle have secured a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and Benitez is already ironing out his plans to strengthen over the summer.
19-year-old Tierney, who was born on the Isle of Man, has excelled for Celtic this season and has also attracted the interest of Manchester United.
