Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez says that Dwight Gayle can go on and play for England.
The former Crystal Palace striker has scored 11 goals for Benitez’s men this season to lead the Magpies to the top of the table and the United boss believes Gayle will only get better.
In an interview with Sky Bet Benitez was asked whether Gayle was capable of stepping up to international level.
“Yes (I think he can go on to play for England), I think he’s an interesting player,” said Benitez.
“He has a lot of good things.
“When you talk about strikers what they have to do is score goals, and he can score even more because he’s working hard in training and he is keen to learn.
“When we do finishing training he is always there and keen to improve.
“I can see him improving and getting better.”
The 26-year-old striker, who moved for £10million from Selhurst Park in the summer, has in the past been linked with a call-up for Jamaica.
