There had been speculation suggesting Newcastle and Anderlect had already agreed a fee for Mitrovic to move to St James’ Park, but Van Holsbeeck has ruled out allowing the striker to leave this summer.
“At 20, Mitrovic has scored 20 league goals this season,” Van Holsbeeck said. “He scored against Arsenal, Dortmund and has also played for Serbia. This is a striker who you know can really improve a side.
“Therefore, we have decided against selling him. Mitro is aware and he wants to stay.”
Newcastle are also reported to be keen on QPR’s Charlie Austin and Burnley’s Danny Ings, along with Ghana winger Andre Ayew, as they look to add more goals to their side.
