Barcelona forward Neymar is set to put pen to paper on a new contract to keep him at the Nou Camp and putting an end to rumours of a Manchester United move.
The Brazilian international has been linked with an exit from the Catalans, despite re-assurances from the player’s representative that he would not be going anywhere.
This supports reports in this morning’s Paper Talk, which cited that interest from United could simply be used as leverage for Neymar to get a better deal.
Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu stated that while interest in the player was normal, he was never leaving the club.
“Neymar is not going to go from Barca, he is not going to leave. Therefore, I do not know if [it will be] tomorrow or the day afterwards but Neymar is going to continue for five seasons. It’s normal that other clubs are interested in him,” he is quoted as saying in AS.
“I will make this clear – Neymar has never told us that he wants to leave. The club’s lawyers and Neymar’s lawyers will be finalising the renewal and I hope that it will be closed in the next few days.”
Previous reports had suggested that the player would be willing to talk to Real Madrid, but it appears that door has now been closed.
“I think the probability of [Neymar Jr going to Real Madrid] is zero,” his father Neymar Sr said in an interview with Fox Brazil.
“They have zero chance of signing him.
“Neymar Jr has a contract with Barcelona and any offer would have to come through from them.”
