Saul Niguez is “happy” at Atletico Madrid and has heard nothing about Manchester United’s apparent interest in him, according to his father.
It was reported in the Daily Mirror on Tuesday that United had begun discussions with Atletico over a deal for Niguez, claiming the 21-year-old has an £18million release clause in his contract.
Niguez’s father, however, has dismissed both claims.
“I just heard about this through the newspapers and the TV, we knew nothing,” Niguez senior told Deportes Cope.
“He has always said he wants to succeed at Atletico Madrid. The kid is happy at the club, they are counting on him, the team is doing well, top of La Liga. A lot of things would have to happen for him to leave.”
Niguez Snr: “Saul’s release clause is €45million.”
Niguez has made 13 La Liga appearances this season and featured in all six of Atletico’s Champions League group stage fixtures.
