Owen on target in United stroll

Owen got United’s second after Federico Macheda’s 11th-minute opener, which proved to be the end of the scoring, despite United’s domination.

The opener arrived when Ryan Giggs’ low centre was calmly controlled by Macheda, before the Italian youngster sept the ball home from close range.

The second followed two minutes later. Zoran Tosic found time and space on the left to deliver a low, curling cross and as the hosts hesitated, Owen arrived to poke the ball home from eight yards.

Owen almost had a second but his flick bounced back off the far post.

Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Anderson and Nani all wasted good chances near the end but it mattered little to the outcome as United strolled to victory.
