Oxlade-Chamberlain says he’s still learning his trade at Liverpool

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted it’s hard work trying to establish himself in the Liverpool team and says he’s still learning.

The former Arsenal man was on the bench in last night’s 7-0 Champions League win over Maribor, but replaced MO Salah just before the hour mark and  scored his first goal for the club late on in the rout.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who arrived for £35million in the summer, has made eight appearances in the Premier League, but he has only started three times after struggling to adapt to life at Anfield.

“It’s a competitive team that I’ve come in to,” he told BT Sport. “We’re in an important part of the season where we want to get off to a good start and we’ve got a few results that haven’t gone our way.

“Everyone’s fighting for their place and I’m just ready for when I get the opportunity, like tonight. I need to keep developing and learning a new style of play here and get used to that and then whenever I get my opportunities, try to do as well as I can.”

Boss Jurgen Klopp was happy with Oxlade-Chamberlain too.

“It will open his chest. It will help him a lot. He could have scored two,” Klopp said.
