Mesut Ozil: 18 months left on Arsenal deal

Mesut Ozil has revealed he is “very comfortable in London”, sparking fresh belief that he will sign a new contract with Arsenal.

The German has 18 months left on his current Gunners deal and has previously stated that Arsene Wenger’s future would have to be resolved before he signed on the dotted line.

However, it appears that may not be the only factor involved in his contract negotiations, especially after his recent move to a new home in Hampstead seems to suggest that he and his family are very accustomed to London life.

“I’ve simply arrived in the Premier League since last season,” Ozil told the German football federation website. “I’ve remained injury-free for the most part and I feel very comfortable in London now as well.”

Speaking earlier in January to German publication Kicker Ozil shared further insight into why he is so happy in London: “I often have visitors, my cousin Serdar and my dog Balboa are basically always with me.

“I am lucky that the friends I was raised with work for me today and are there. And that the right people, who I trust completely, have joined us.

“The two years in Bremen I lived alone, watched TV shows alone, ate alone. That wasn’t for me. Over Christmas everyone was there, everyone slept wherever there was space. It was fun.”
