Mesut Ozil should leave Arsenal for Bayern Munich if he wants to win trophies, according to Michael Ballack.
Ozil’s current deal at The Emirates expires in June 2018 and despite holding talks with club officials the Germany star has yet to pen a new contract with the club.
His situation has meant that some of Europe’s biggest clubs have been put on alert and he has been linked with a return to Real Madrid, whose coach Zinedine Zidane is one of Ozil’s idols.
But Ballack, who won the Bundesliga three times with Bayern and lifted the Premier League title with Chelsea, believes a move to the Bavarian giants would suit him.
“Mesut is an amazing player. He knows that he is one of the undisputed stars at Arsenal,” Ballack told Sport Bild.
“A lot of clubs would love to have him.
“But if he wants to win a major title, he has a bigger chance to achieve that at Bayern.”
Ballack also believes Bayern have the financial muscle to meet Arsenal’s asking price, which could well be more than the £42,4million the Gunners paid Real back in September 2013.
“If you look at the recent developments in England and China, it seems inevitable that Bayern will soon pay transfer fees of €50million or so as well,” added Ballack.
“They have to if you want to keep competing with the best. If you want to bring in world-class player, you will have to invest.”
