Roy Hodgson: Feels better for break

The 21-year-old, whose mother is from the US, is heading for a trial with New England Revolution.

His Blues deal was set to expire in June, while the Major League Soccer’s trial window closes on May 12.

The USA U23 international, who grew up in America before joining Birmingham’s academy as a 14-year-old in 2007, has made 21 first-team appearances since his Blues debut in March 2012.

Packwood has had loan spells at Bristol Rovers, Colchester and Cheltenham and was sidelined for several months in early 2013 after breaking his leg.
