Paper Talk: Spurs striker move still on; Arsenal eye £18m star

Arsenal are keen on signing a highly-rated Genk midfielder, while Bournemouth striker Josh King has not ruled out a big-money move to a Premier League rival, according to Monday’s newspapers.

ARSENAL TARGET £18M GENK STAR

Arsenal are reportedly looking to land Genk defensive midfielder Sander Berge for £18million this summer.

The 19-year-old Norway international is said to have been watched by the Gunners several times and they are now ready to push forward with a bid.

Arsenal, however, will have to do battle with Everton, who tried to sign the player last season, and Spanish outfit Sevilla for Berge’s signature, according to the Daily Mirror.

Despite having several midfield options at his disposal, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is said to have run out of patience with Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny and is ready to look elsewhere to boost his squad ahead of the new season.

Berge only played 15 times for Genk in the Belgian and Europa Leagues last season and is not seen as an immediate starter for Arsenal, particularly with Granit Xhaka showing a huge improvement in form towards the end of last term.

KING ‘INTRIGUED’ BY SPURS INTEREST

Bournemouth striker Josh King wants to stay at the club but has not ruled out a summer switch to Tottenham.

The Norway hitman had admitted he is “intrigued” by Spurs’ interest, despite not actively looking to quit the Cherries.

The Daily Mirror claimed last month that King had caught the eye of Spurs chief Mauricio Pochettino following his 16-goal season.

King said: “I would be a liar if I said I hadn’t noticed it. It was in most papers in England and you have got people tagging you and sending you links here and there.

“I was intrigued even being mentioned in the same sentence as Spurs, a big team who play in the Champions League.”

King, who has three years left on his current Cherries deal, added: “You never know in football but, hopefully, I will be here next year and I’m looking forward to working with the gaffer because he’s been brilliant with me since the day I set foot on the training ground.”

Everton, who have been splashing the cash already this summer, are also said to be keen on the 25-year-old.
