Arsenal are set to switch winger targets after their bid for Thomas Lemar was turned down, while West Brom are planning a £100,000 a week deal to keep Jonny Evans, all in the papers.

Arsenal are reportedly pondering whether to firm up their interest in Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez after failing with a bid for Thomas Lemar.

Arsene Wenger is believed to have had a £31million bid for the 21-year-old Monaco winger rebuffed by the Ligue 1 champions and a not for sale sign placed on his head.

Monaco vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev has told Arsenal that there stance is “non-negotiable”, according to The Guardian and Wenger must decide whether to pursue the winger or switch his attention elsewhere.

Mahrez, 26, was a target for Arsenal last summer after the Algerian was crowned PFA Player of the Year en route to Leicester’s amazing title victory. And now, according to The Telegraph, Wenger must decide whether to make another bid for Lemar or cut his losses and make a concerted move for Mahrez.

Mahrez had a season to forget for the Foxes last term, but the club are still believed to be wanting £40million for the player, who is contracted until 2020.

West Brom face a “major battle” to keep Jonny Evans at The Hwathorns, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Northern Ireland centre-back is considering his future after his former Man Utd team-mate Darren Fletcher left the club for Stoke earlier in the summer.

The 29-year-old has two years left on his contract after joining from United for just £6million in August 2015.

Leicester are believed to have made a £10million bid for Evans and per the source, “are set to return with an improved offer”.

Evans is believed to have been on Arsenal’s radar last summer, but Albion boss Tony Pulis will try and keep Evans and break the club’s pay scale with a £100,000-a-week new contract.
