Gary Cahill, Robert Lewandowski and Jamie Vardy are among the players whose futures Thursday’s newspapers have updates on.
CHELSEA PLAN TO KEEP CAHILL FOR NOW
Chelsea are unlikely to grant Gary Cahill his wish of a move away from Stamford Bridge this month, according to The Guardian, despite the impending signing of United States defender Matt Miazga.
A ‘source close to Cahill’ said on Wednesday the 30-year-old would like a transfer to protect his Euro 2016 chances, but a lack of time to find a replacement means Chelsea are set to keep him on the fringes for the rest of the season, with Miazga apparently seen as ‘a player for the future’.
Chelsea are expected to pay around £2million for the 20-year-old, who has a Polish passport and so will not require a work permit. Although he is likely to start behind John Terry, Kurt Zouma and even Cahill in the pecking order, Miazga is said to have received assurances he will not be immediately sent out on loan.
LEWANDOWSKI WON’T MOVE TO ENGLAND
Robert Lewandowski will seek to leave Bayern Munich this summer, according to both the Daily Telegraph and Independent, but the Poland striker would rather stay for another year at the Allianz Arena than move to the Premier League as he holds out for a move to Real Madrid.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have an interest, the newspapers say, while Liverpool have also been linked, but Lewandowski apparently has his heart set on joining Real, who have identified him as one of their next major signings but have been handed a transfer ban which they must first try to have overturned or at least delayed.
