Javier Hernandez: Chelsea said to want Bayer Leverkusen striker

Chelsea are plotting a move for Javier Hernandez, Inter Milan want Branislav Ivanovic, while Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal have watched Nicolas Gaitan, according to Sunday’s newspapers.

Chelsea are plotting a shock move for Manchester United reject Javier Hernandez in January, claims the Sunday People.

The Blues have scored only 16 goals in 12 Premier League games this season, with Diego Costa managing only two in seven appearances, and Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao only one between them.

Hernandez spent last season on loan at Real Madrid before United sold him to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. The 27-year-old has scored 12 goals in 19 games for club and country this season, including eight in his last six.

It seems unlikely, therefore, that Leverkusen would be willing to sell the Mexico striker, but The People claim he would cost around £8.5million if they do.

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic is wanted by Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer and has been one of the players that has struggled most during Chelsea’s atrocious start to their Premier League title defence.

Ivanovic would like to stay on, with his family settled in London, but Chelsea’s policy is that contract extensions with players over the age of 30 will not be discussed until the February of the final year of their deal.

That may give the Serb a decision to make in January, when he will be free to speak to clubs from overseas.

The Mirror says Roberto Mancini’s interest in Ivanovic has been relayed and that the Serie A club are hopeful a deal can be struck.

It is a rumour we have heard a thousand times, but the Sunday People claims Manchester City are ‘closing in’ on Benfica midfelder Nicolas Gaitan.

Their definition of ‘closing in’ is that City, apparently along with Manchester United and Arsenal, had representatives watch Gaitan in action during Benfica’s win over Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Atletico Madrid are ‘among a host of other top clubs who have been following the 27-year-old’, the newspaper adds, but City are said to be the favourites to sign the Argentina international.
