Liverpool are chasing Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho, Chelsea are said to be scouting new right-backs and could let both Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry leave.
LIVERPOOL TRACK SPORTING STAR CARVALHO
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is drawing up his list of January transfer targets and Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is believed to heading his shopping list.
Italian website Calcio Mercato report that Liverpool are keen to strengthen their spine with the Portugal international, who starred in the Under-21 European Championships over the summer.
The Reds almost sanctioned the sale of Lucas Leiva to Besiktas, but Rodgers blocked the move at the last minute, but 23-year-old holding midfielder Carvalho would be a ready-made replacement for Lucas.
CHELSEA BEGIN RIGHT-BACK SEARCH
Chelsea have begun the search for Branislav Ivanovic’s replacement at right-back, according to the Daily Mail.
The Serbia international has put in a series of under-par performances for the Blues this season and could soon find his place under threat after Baba Rahman was signed, potentially allowing Cesar Azpilicueta to switch to right-back.
Ivanovic is out of contract at the end of the season anyway, and though Chelsea had been planning to offer the 31-year-old a one-year extension, club scouts are said to have been asked to compile a list of possible signings for his position.
TERRY FUTURE ALSO UNCERTAIN
The Daily Mirror partly corroborates the story, claiming both Ivanovic and John Terry fear they could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge on free transfers at the end of the season.
Neither player has been given assurances they will be recalled against Arsenal on Saturday after being dropped for Chelsea’s Champions League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv, and other players are said to believe the uncertainty over their places and long-term future is affecting the duo’s form.
Turkish club Fenerbahce are interested in both players, the Mirror adds, and will be able to speak to them in January if new contracts have still not been arranged.
SWANSEA PLAN £8M BYRAM BID
Just days after it was reported that Leeds left-back Charlie Taylor is a target for Manchester United, the Daily Mirror claims Leeds right-back Sam Byram is Swansea boss Garry Monk’s top target for the January transfer window.
Leeds boss Uwe Rosler said last week that Byram’s form had dipped as a result of the speculation over his future, with several Premier League clubs reportedly interested in the 22-year-old, and the rumours do not look about to die down any time soon.
Monk is said to be confident he can land Byram for £8million despite possible rival interest from the likes of Southampton, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton.
