Man City are putting together a huge offer worth in excess of £200million for Lionel Messi next summer, while Man Utd are looking at two Austria stars.
City to offer Messi £500,000 a week
Manchester City appear to be serious in the pursuit of Lionel Messi, with the club said to be preparing a package worth in excess of £200million to persuade the Barcelona star to quit the Nou Camp.
City’s confidence of pulling off a stunning deal is said to be growing, with officials buoyed by Barca’s failure so far to convince Messi to sign a new contract.
The Argentina forward’s current deal expires in 2018, with a £215million release clause written into that agreement. But, according to the Sunday Mirror, City know the Catalans will have to accept less than that if the current stand-off between Messi and Barca continues, with Barca unwilling to risk losing their biggest asset for nothing in 18 months.
City are said to be willing to pay in excess of £100million, with Messi set to be offered a wage of £500,000 a week.
United consider Alaba offer
Man Utd are said to be considering a move for Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba and his Austria team-mate Julian Baumgartlinger.
According to the Sunday People, Jose Mourinho had Austria watched twice during the international break as he considers options to strengthen the left side of his defence and midfield.
Alaba is under contract with Bayern until 2021 but Real Madrid are also said to be sniffing around the 24-year-old.
Baumgartlinger is a 28-year-old midfielder at Bayer Leverkusen with Mourinho will be looking to add in January to cover for the expected exits of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
