Paper Talk: United’s first summer deal named; Vardy to LaLiga

Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal to sign an Atletico defender, while the LaLiga giants want a Premier League striker to replace Antoine Griezmann this summer, according to Sunday’s newspapers.

UNITED TO MAKE ATLETICO STAR THEIR FIRST SUMMER SIGNING

Jose Mourinho will kick off Manchester United’s summer spending spree with a £35m move for Atletico Madrid defender Sime Vrsaljko, according to reports on Sunday.

The Sunday Mirror claims a deal for the 26-year-old has been agreed, with the move set to be confirmed imminently and the Croatia international set to become the club’s first signing of what promises to be a busy summer.

United are on the hunt for a new right-back this summer, with Matteo Darmian poised to return to Italy with Juventus and Antonio Valencia approaching the end of the line.

Vrsaljko has been at Atletico since 2016, but it seems the LaLiga club are ready to cash in for the right price – and Mourinho appears ready to spend £35m to land his man.

A deal for Napoli right-back Elseid Hysa was suggested on Tuesday, but at £44m, United have decided to plump for the cheaper option.
