Denis Cheryshev: Liverpool could sign Real Madrid winger

Liverpool, Newcastle United, Tottenham, Stoke City and Leicester City could all make new signings on transfer deadline day.

Liverpool are set to make a deadline-day bid to sign Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev, claims the Daily Mirror.

The Reds have been linked with Cheryshev in the past and are now ‘one of the Russian’s possible destinations’ on deadline day, with Real willing to let him leave on loan to secure first-team football.

Zinedine Zidane said: “We’ll see tomorrow but yes, Cheryshev could leave. He’s a great player but he needs to play.”

Liverpool’s main target was Alex Texeira, but Shakhtar Donetsk have refused to lower their £35million asking price for the Brazilian, though it is said the Merseysiders have not completely given up hope of sealing a late deal.

Roma striker Seydou Doumbia has snubbed Aston Villa to instead join Newcastle United on loan for the rest of the season, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Doumbia was Remi Garde’s top target for January, with Villa even apparently offering a bigger loan fee than Newcastle, yet the 28-year-old has decided to move to St James’ despite speaking to Garde on the phone and also meeting with Villa’s sporting director Hendrik Almstadt and their director of scouting and player recruitment, Paddy Riley, in Rome last week.

Newcastle’s move for Doumbia may suggest they have given up on West Brom striker Saido Berahino after having a £21million offer rejected on Sunday, but the Daily Mirror says the Magpies are willing to increase that to £25million to get their man.

Stoke City are also monitoring developments – and Tottenham are also set to make a deadline-day offer, the newspaper claims.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has insisted Berahino is not for sale in this window, but the 21-year-old only has 18 months remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns, has not been a part of Tony Pulis’ first-choice team, and has made clear his desire to join Spurs.
