Aymeric Laporte: Buy-out clause raised to £52million

Man City have lined up deals for Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte and Barcelona stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, while Tottenham monitor Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and Juventus star Mario Mandzukic, according to Monday’s papers.

Incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly made strengthening the defence his number one priority in the summer transfer window, as The Sun suggest 21-year-old Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte will be one of the first new players through the door at the Etihad Stadium.

The Frenchman, who has repeatedly been linked with a move to arch-rivals Manchester United, is believed to have a £40m release clause in his contract and will be tempted to snub a move to Old Trafford with a ‘perks package’ at Manchester City which includes a contract worth £8m a year.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror have reported that Manchester City are also set to hijack Liverpool’s move for Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The Reds are said to have launched a £19m bid for the 23-year-old German over the weekend, but their move looks to have also forced the Citizens into action.

Title-chasing Tottenham are ready to ease the burden on star striker Harry Kane in the summer, with Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic thought to be top of Mauricio Pochettino’s list.

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Spurs have been alerted to Insigne after his impressive form for Napoli this season, which has seen him score 12 goals and assist in a further 11 as the Partenopei look to keep pace with Juventus at the top of the Serie A table.

Croatian striker Mandzukic, 29, is considered to be an alternative option for Pochettino should he fail to land Insigne.

He is reportedly willing to move on from the reigning Italian champions, but is thought to be weighing up his options as he looks to secure more Champions League football next season.
